Quartz Hill

Quartz Hill’s location in Southern California’s High Desert offers recreational activities embraced by the outdoor lover. Seasonal options from snow skiing and snow boarding in the local mountains, while still in close proximity for a day trip to the Pacific Coast in the summer. Year-round hiking, backpacking and cycling are also a favorite to the locals.

An impressive redevelopment and active economic expansion program in the area has made a commitment to attracting and retaining a prosperous business community. Through the redevelopment, policies are initiated and implemented by elected officials. The program has designated new business and industrial parks, while attracting retail and dining to retail centers throughout the city. In addition, revitalization of Downtown Lancaster has also been a focus of the project. Historic buildings and modern amenities sit side by side, with renovated business facades, new boutiques and restaurants in the Old Town Area.

The area was developed with the influence of the Southern Pacific Railroad, completed between San Francisco and Los Angeles in 1876. After establishing a pure and accessible water stop, following the completion of the railroad, a hotel was built at the stop. Soon thereafter, gold was discovered north of Lancaster and attracted a horde of miners, eventually leading to borax mining in the hills. In the 1930’s, airplanes were brought to the area for flight tests and later space shuttle landings. Home to the Lancaster Aerospace Walk of Honor, Lancaster celebrates test pilots of Edwards Air Force Base.

The area also boasts one of California’s largest crops of poppies. Each spring, the California Poppy Festival draws thousands of guests to celebrate the blooming of the Oz flowers. The Poppy Festival has become a popular event to world visitors as well as residents. Beginning as an Earth Day Celebration, it has grown to an event with over 55 acres of activities and fun. Celebrate Downtown Lancaster is a summertime street fair and farmers market held several times throughout the summer. Residents come together to celebrate their community through family activities, street musicians and vendors.

Whether it's the diverse recreational opportunities, the small town atmosphere or the picturesque desert scenery, Quartz Hill and the surrounding communities afford a quality of life second to none.
